Storage Tips: Packing and Storing

Most of us has either moved or will move in our lifetime. It can be a stressful time especially getting everything packed correctly so it will still look the same the next time you look it up. Here are some tips that will help you during this stressful time.

When you first get your boxes to start packing try to get boxes that are essentially the same size so it will be easier when it comes to stacking them. This also helps save much needed space especially if you are renting a storage unit. When packing try to use bubble wrap or some sort of insulation to protect valuables, newspaper also works well. Make sure to label your boxes so it's easy to see what boxes  are what if you ever need to get to them quickly. Never store hazardous material such as flammable items or combustible. As you store your boxes you might be trying to do it as fast as you can to get done with the project but take a little time to put the heavier boxes on the bottom and the lighter boxes stacked on top. If there are boxes that are half full put those on the very top or fill them up more so they don't break when stacking. Try to leave some isles and walk ways so you can get to your items easier if need be. When storing appliances make sure cords and hoses are put away or taped to the item. If it's a fridge, washer, or dryer keep the doors open a little to prevent mold from growing. Organizing your self storage facility can be smart to do as well, we've already mentioned a few ways to store items, here are a few more. If possible insert wood pallets or boards under items such as furniture or packages. This will help keep them off the floor in case of condensation which could damage items. This will also help a little with ventilation. Other good ideas would be to store valuables and items that you won't need towards the back of the storage unit. Items that you may need store closer to the front of the unit. It also may be smart to cover your items with large plastic or a tarp to help prevent possible water damage and dust. Store your items as tight as you can so maximize spacial area. Finally, you will want to find a top notch lock to lock your items.

If you follow these tips and guidelines when storing your items you will be sure to have peace of mind and relief of stress knowing your items and valuables are safe and secure.
